I went on my last Match.Com date last week. The Match experience was actually not all that bad. Some would say pretty good… pretty, pretty, pretty good. I spent this pas Friday staying in and kind of wished I still had the account so I could have a date lined up. Somehow over the past year, “dating” became my thing. I do it find it funny, as I never saw myself becoming a serial dater. But alas, I am now, and I am working on lining up some new dates. Even though at the moment, I have nothing to speak of going on besides working on second dates with my last two Match dates. I am not working too hard on this .

As I go into a “hiatus” I am starting to get into a groove. The dates are starting to fit a pattern. That pattern is to meet near Union Square for drinks. Drinks seem to work though. I firmly believe I now would never really like to start a first date with dinner. Drinks are the way to go. It’s the icebreaker, the social lubrication that is needed for the rest of the night. After drinks, dinner is okay but if you from one to the other it’s almost like a date within a date, or second date. If I do two or three movements, within a date, it is a good night. At this point, I’ve learned to end them early if I am not feeling it.

On to new business; I went on a date with who I will now call Fraternity Girl. Frat girl was a pretty cool chick. She was pretty down-to-earth and laid back. Just my speed. She is from Maine, does something in TV editing and production, and played ice hockey in college. Sporty! She is about 5’10”, and looks pretty cute. I met in at Belmont Lounge, off of Union Square. We had a couple of beers there. Over the course of our conversations, it came out that I was in a fraternity in college. She asked me which one and I told her I was in ΘΔΧ. She then starts rattling off the names of the founders of the fraternity which I don’t even really remember. Strange shit! As it turns out, she too was in the same fraternity. So weird! Oddly enough, she went to a school that had co-ed fraternities and she was in it. I was definitely pretty shocked for a bit but I guess it is kind of cool. Definitely a good story to tell my friends from the house.

We hung there for awhile and then decided to move on to another bar where we could hear each other talk. The music was so loud I could only hear every other word. It was pouring rain out, and we had the same shitty umbrellas that the bums sell on the street. We already had so much in common! We then went around the corner to the Watering Hole where there was karaoke going on. Though we did not participate it proved to be very entertaining. I am not sure quite what we talked about but we had about 5 pints each and hung out until 3AM. At the same time, we decided that’s pretty good for a first date and we should call in a night. We hung out briefly on a corner talking, and had a small kiss goodbye.

So that is all for now, unfortunately I have zero new potential dates in the pipeline for now. Hopefully that will change soon. You will certainly hear from me when I do…
